Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups (250mL) of warm water
  • 8 drops of gentle liquid detergent
  • Spray bottle
  • Sponge
  • Microfibre cloth

  1. Mix 2 cups (250mL) of warm water and 8 drops of detergent in a spray bottle.  Pour the water and detergent into a spray bottle and tightly screw on the lid. Shake the bottle for a couple of seconds until the detergent has dissolved and the water looks bubbly.
  • Opt for a gentle liquid detergent that isn’t advertised as “moisturising”, as these detergents can leave an oily film on the glass.
  • Tempered glass cleaner can be used instead of the detergent solution. You can pick this up from a hardware store. Avoid using generic glass cleaners, as these can damage tempered glass.
  1. Spray the detergent solution over the entire glass surface. Start at one end of the glass and work your way to the other end. Spray the solution liberally and make sure the entire surface is covered.
  2. Leave the detergent solution to soak for 5-minutes. This gives time for the detergent to break down any oils, mineral deposits and general grime on the glass.
  3. Wipe off the detergent solution with a wet sponge. Squeeze out the drips of water and then start by agitating off any hardened dirt. Next, wipe off the detergent solution from the glass. Start at one end and slowly work your way to the other end.
  4. Dry and polish the glass with a microfibre cloth. Microfibre cloths are idea for cleaning tempered glass as they are gentle and help to create a streak-free finish. Dry the glass using long circular strokes.  Continue to polish the glass until it is steak-free and shiny.

  • Avoid using tissues or paper towels to dry the glass, as these will leave dust and lint behind. This is particularly noticeable on black glass.

How Do You Keep Dust Off Black Glass?

One of the downsides of black glass is that dust is very noticeable. To keep the dust away, make your own dust repellent. This creates a barrier over the glass that helps to keep dust off your black glass.

    Things You’ll Need:

    • Fabric softener
    • Water
    • Spray bottle
    • Microfibre cloth

    1. Mix 4 parts water with 1 part liquid fabric softener in a spray bottle. Pour in the water and fabric softener and then screw on the lid. Shake the bottle vigorously until the fabric softener has dissolved in the water.
    2. Spray the dust repellent over the glass. Cover the entire surface of the glass. Start from the top of the glass and work your way down.
    3. Dry and polish the glass with a microfibre cloth. Use the cloth to dry the glass. Then, use a dry part of the cloth to polish the table. Use long circular strokes and keep buffing until there are no streaks. Don’t use paper towels to dry the glass, as these will leave lint and dust on your table.
